Libraries
The Halifax
Regional Library is the life-long learning centre of the
Community and the place people turn to for the discovery of ideas,
the joy of reading and the power of information. It is comprised of
14 branch libraries, two mobile libraries, Books-by-Mail and
Homebound services and e-branch. The Library serves a population of
359,183 spread over 5,889 square kilometres. Today the collection
consists of more than 1,164,578 items including books,
magazines, videos, compact discs and cassettes.

The Bedford
Public Library has a wide range of books, magazines, videos, DVDs,
CDs, cassettes, and multilingual material. The library also provides
general interest programming (including ESL classes) for adults and
youth, and has several computers, complete with Internet connection
and software, including word processing and childrens applications.
Keshen

The Keshen
Goodman Library, which sits at the gateway of Clayton Parks
Mainland Common, is a 25,000 square foot library with a collection of
over 100,000 titles. This uniquely-designed structure, opened in
2001, boasts a 20 ft. ceiling and a cozy café with a
fireplace. The library, which offers Self-Check, Self-Service holds
and room rentals, serves as a resource for information and
technology, with over 45 public access computers, Internet access,
and a variety of office and childrens software. The Keshen
Goodman Library, which won a 2002 Lieutenant-Governor's Design Award
for Architecture, was built through a bequest left to the Halifax
Regional Library by Marion Keshen in honour of the Keshen Goodman family.

The Tantallon
Public Library, located at Exit 5 on Highway 103, is a full-service
branch which opened in fall 2001. The library, which has a large
number of Internet-accessible computers, complete with a variety of
adult and childrens software, also has two wired study carrels
for those wishing to bring their own laptop. This branch also
contains a large, bookable meeting room, as well as a VCR, TV and an
overhead projector - also available for booking. Teachers and
home-schoolers are also invited to bring their classes or students to
the library for a fun, informative visit which can include stories,
puppet shows, scavenger hunts or a tour.
